Elissa Slotkin is a third-generation Michigander who was first elected to serve Michigan’s 8th Congressional District in 2018. After the 9/11 terrorist attack, Slotkin was recruited by the CIA to serve as a Middle East analyst where she served three tours in Iraq alongside our nation’s military and diplomats. Her experience in combat zones led her to serve in national security roles in the White House under President Bush and President Obama. In 2011, she oversaw defense policy for Africa, the Middle East, and Europe at the Pentagon as the acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs until 2017. It is her record of putting country before party and working to improve the safety and lives of her constituents that allowed her to flip this seat in 2018 and she’s ready to do it again in 2020.
