CHC BOLD PAC Calls for DNC to Make Nevada the Nation’s First Presidential Primary, Elevate Latino Voters Following 2022 Midterms



Thanks to Latino Voters in 2022, the Diverse Battleground State of Nevada Re-Elected the Nation’s Only Latina Senator, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Secured a Democratic Majority



Washington, D.C. - As part of its commitment to expanding Latino representation in Congress, today CHC BOLD PAC is supporting Nevada’s application to host the First in the Nation presidential primary. In the 2022 midterm elections, Latino voters decisively backed Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, re-electing the first and only Latina Senator while also delivering the 50th Senate seat that secured the Democratic Senate majority for two more years. CHC BOLD PAC previously endorsed Nevada’s bid to hold the first primary in July. 


The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee will make a decision on a new order of early states in the primary at the end of this week.

“The midterm results in Nevada underscore exactly why elevating this diverse battleground state and showing a deeper commitment to hearing from Latinos and other diverse voters earlier in the Democratic primary calendar is so crucial for winning national elections. Picking a President should start with a state that reflects our shared values of inclusion and embodies our rich diversity - particularly when it comes to some of the fastest growing voting blocs in the nation,” said ​​CHC BOLD PAC Chairman Ruben Gallego and CHC BOLD PAC Member Dr. Raul Ruiz. “The state that goes first matters, and we know that Latino voters will only become even more decisive in future election cycles when it comes to winning the White House and majorities in the House and Senate. We renew our call to the DNC not to miss this historic opportunity to improve our Democratic primary process in a way that increases real representation of Latinos and so many other communities.” 


Background on Nevada


Nevada is the third-most diverse state in America, according to the U.S. Census Index. The state’s population is majority-minority, including nearly 30% Latino, making it the only state vying to host the First in the Nation primary that is home to a major Latino electorate. In recent years, the Latino community has become the country's second-largest voting bloc by ethnicity and a decisive factor in state and national races. Nevada is also a battle-tested early state, having been the First in the West since the 2008 election cycle, as well as one of the most consistently competitive general election battlegrounds in the country.

Gracias a los votantes latinos en 2022, el disputado y diverso estado de Nevada reeligió a la única Senadora latina de la nación, Catherine Cortez Masto y aseguró una mayoría demócrata




Washington, D.C. – Como parte de su compromiso por expandir la representación latina en el Congreso, hoy CHC BOLD PAC reitera el apoyo a la solicitud de que Nevada albergue la primaria presidencial. En las elecciones intermedias de 2022, los votantes latinos respaldaron de manera decisiva a la Senadora Catherine Cortez Masto, reeligiendo a la primera y única senadora latina.
