Kai Kahele is running to improve access to affordable healthcare, improve our public education system, and protect our environment and natural resources.

Kai Kahele was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii and graduated from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. After college, Kahele became a Commissioned Officer in the Hawai’i Air National Guard, United States Air Force, where he served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. After nearly twenty years of service, Kahele was appointed by the Hawaiian Governor as a State Senator and went on to win the special election for his Senate district in 2016 and won re-election in 2018.. Kahele is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water and Land and is the Vice Chairman of Hawaiian Affairs on the Ways & Means Committee. Under Kahele’s leadership, the local government was able to partner with local universities to establish a commercial aviation program, to give local Hawaiian’s more access to economic opportunities. 

Kahele is still active as a Reserve Officer in the National Guard.
