Republicans Promoting Trump’s Big Lie Stand with Domestic Terrorists, Must be Stopped in November

BOLD PAC recommits to taking back our country from Republican extremists who undermine our cherished freedom

Washington, D.C. - A year and a half ago this week, President Trump and his Republican accomplices - inside and outside Congress - led an assault on the U.S. Capitol to overturn the presidential elections. The deadly attack was launched not only against the Capitol and the police officers who defended it, but it was also a strike on America’s very freedom to have a government by and for the people. CHC BOLD PAC today called on every Republican congressional candidate to denounce the Big Lie and recommitted to defeating the freedom-hating candidates who refuse to do so.

“The Big Lie is a debunked conspiracy theory used by MAGA Republicans to incite and justify a deadly insurrection to overturn a democratic election. Trump and his minions orchestrated a failed coup, lying to encourage a mob of domestic terrorists to attack police officers and veterans tasked with defending the Capitol and the freedom of the American people itself. Many Republicans in Congress have been loud supporters of Trump’s lies, even after the attack resulted in the death of five police officers, and have sided with their Party in defending the violence as “legitimate,” said CHC BOLD PAC Chairman Ruben Gallego. “January 6th is not in the past. Republican candidates across the country are jumping on the Trump autocratic train, supporting attempts in states across the country to undermine the will of American voters and steal the next election from their very hands. BOLD PAC calls on all candidates for Congress to denounce the Big Lie and recommits to taking our country back from those who continue to destroy our cherished liberties and right to self-government. Now is the time to use any peaceful and democratic means to hold all Republicans who stand with the extremists accountable at every turn, especially at the ballot box.”

GOP leadership in Congress and many others in the Republican party continue to defend the January 6 domestic terrorists and their false claims that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen. Republicans such as House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik have defended the extremists as “patriotic”. Sadly, Rep. Stefanik is not alone. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and other Capitol Hill Republicans have echoed her dangerous rhetoric.

In fact, merely hours after the deadly attack on the Capitol, 147 Republicans stood with the domestic terrorists by voting against certifying the 2020 presidential election despite widespread evidence that the election was free and fair.

CHC BOLD PAC Board Member Sylvia García (TX-29) said, “We must take our country back and defend American democracy. The only way we can achieve this is by bringing to justice all the domestic terrorists involved in the January 6th attacks. Actions have consequences, and the insurrectionists’ cowardly violence is not the exception. We need to have all the details of the failed Trump-supported coup to understand the gravity of what happened and exactly who did what. Only then will we be able to put this dark moment of our history behind us.”

Here are just a few Republican candidates for Congress who encouraged the deadly violence and defended the domestic terrorists by peddling these dangerous lies:

CHC BOLD PAC has been at the forefront of efforts to combat Republican misinformation and hold Republicans accountable for their role in the January 6th insurrection. It launched a series of ads highlighting four Republicans who stood with violent extremists by voting against certifying the 2020 election results and for continuing to spread the lies that lead to the failed coup on January 6th a full year later. BOLD PAC calls on every Republican congressional candidate to stand with the police officers and members of the armed services who have fought to safeguard American freedom by denouncing the Big Lie and recommits to defeating the freedom-hating candidates who would rather stand with domestic terrorists than defend our democracy.
