Washington, D.C. - Today, CHC BOLD PAC Chairman Ruben Gallego issued the following statement regarding Republican Senator Ted Cruz's visit to the Rio Grande Valley: 


“Senator Ted Cruz is leading a Republican delegation visit to the Rio Grande Valley. This is just a distraction from the fact that he abandoned his constituents while they were without power or water during a massive winter storm. Make no mistake, Senator Cruz proudly stood with Trump’s cruel immigration policies that separated thousands of children from their parents and has a long history of being on the wrong side of this issue. He’d much rather the American people pay attention to his newfound faux interest in the well-being of children at the border rather than his long record of supporting anti-immigrant policies like those that led to the current situation and voting against policies like the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform,” said BOLD PAC Chairman Ruben Gallego.


Sen. Cruz’s record is replete with inhumane and unjust policies toward immigrants in America: 


  • More than 800,000 Dreamers need help, and Sen. Cruz - who was born in Canada to a Cuban father - refuses to work on a - refuses to work on a solution.





While Sen. Cruz and other Republicans tour the southern border and mischaracterize immigrants and asylum seekers as violent criminals and fan the flames of dangerous anti-immigrant rhetoric, President Joe Biden has brought back common-sense solutions that are supported by the majority of the American public and reinstated programs that allow children to apply for asylum from their home countries rather than embarking on the dangerous journey to the border.
