CHC BOLD PAC Congratulates Andrea Salinas’ on Her Historic Victory in Oregon’s 6th Congressional District Primary

With Largest Investment in its History, CHC BOLD PAC Helped Power Salinas to an Against-the-Odds Victory

Washington, D.C. - Today,  CHC BOLD PAC, the campaign arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, congratulates Andrea Salinas on securing the Democratic nomination in Oregon’s 6th Congressional District.

“With Andrea Salinas as the official Democratic nominee in Oregon’s 6th Congressional District, the state of Oregon is one step closer to making history and electing its first Latina representative to Congress. She is a proven leader who will fight for affordable health care, a woman’s right to choose, good jobs, and an environment that is protected for generations to come,”
said CHC BOLD PAC Chairman Ruben Gallego. “Andrea won despite being outspent 13 to 1 – her victory defeated the odds and demonstrates the true strength of her candidacy. Oregonians have spoken and voted for an exceptionally qualified leader. BOLD PAC is proud to have played a key role in helping power her campaign to victory. We were the first organization to encourage her to run for Congress because we knew then what we know now – that she has the proven experience that Oregon working families deserve.”

"Andrea Salinas has spent decades fighting for women and families. She was instrumental in passing Oregon’s Reproductive Health Equity Act, the strongest reproductive rights law in the country,” said CHC BOLD PAC Board Member Norma Torres. “Our fundamental right to choose is at stake – which will disproportionately impact Latinas and other women of color. Andrea’s voice is needed in Congress, now more than ever. We are proud to stand with her and look forward to standing with her as she makes history as the first Latina to represent Oregon in Congress."

“BOLD PAC is laser focused on increasing diversity in Congress by getting more Latinos and Latinas who will fight for our community elected. Andrea is a proven champion on so many of the issues that matter to our community – she spearheaded what is now the strongest reproductive rights to law in the country, got the nation’s most progressive paid family leave bill passed, and successfully fought to guarantee overtime pay for farmworkers in Oregon,”
said CHC BOLD PAC Executive Director Victoria McGroary. “This victory is a big win for Oregon and for Latinos and Latinas across the country. And it serves as an important reminder – when Andrea Salinas fights for something, she wins. BOLD PAC is proud to have stood with her since day one and we look forward to standing alongside her when she makes history in November.”

Despite being outspent 13 to 1, BOLD PAC helped power Andrea Salinas’ against-the-odds victory in the crowded primary in Oregon’s 6th district:

ABOUT CHC BOLD PAC ENDORSED CANDIDATE ANDREA SALINAS

For over two decades, Andrea Salinas — a Latina working mom, state representative, and daughter of a Mexican immigrant and Vietnam War veteran — has delivered transformative policies that have shaped the lives of all families in Oregon. She was instrumental in passing Oregon’s Reproductive Health Equity Act, the strongest reproductive rights law in the country and fought to pass the nation’s most progressive paid family leave bill. Andrea also helped pass a bill to increase the transparency of drug pricing so that families aren’t choosing between food and prescription drugs and a bill curbing carbon pollution and phasing out dirty coal.

She is running a historic campaign and was one of the highest ranking Latino elected officials in Oregon’s history, having served as Majority Whip and Assistant Majority Leader in the Oregon House of Representatives. Oregon has never had a Latino or Latina elected to Congress and the 6th Congressional District – which is 21 percent Hispanic – has the opportunity to make history in November.

More than 100 elected Democrats, progressive organizations, and community leaders endorsed Andrea in the crowded Democratic primary, including Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Congresswoman Bonamici (OR-01), The Oregonian, Senator Elizabeth Warren, CHC BOLD PAC, Elect Democratic Women, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and League of Conservation Voters Action Fund (LCV).

CHC BOLD PAC

The Committee for Hispanic Causes (CHC) BOLD PAC is the campaign arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. It was founded in 2001 – it is dedicated to electing Latinos and Latinas to Congress and is powered by thousands of donors from across the country. Over the past 20 years, BOLD PAC has doubled the size of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

While its core mission focuses on increasing diversity in Congress, BOLD PAC has also played an integral role in making and defending the Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. In 2020, BOLD PAC endorsed 117 House and Senate candidates across the country and contributed $1 million directly to their campaigns. These efforts helped elect and re-elect 45 Members of Congress.

We look forward to working with Democratic candidates and organizations in OR-06 and across the country to defend the Democratic majorities in the midterm elections this year.

We will continue working tirelessly to ensure that our democratic processes and institutions serve the American people, no matter the outcome of future elections. “BOLD PAC will remain committed to its mission to fight misinformation, safeguard our democracy, and protect the institutions that uphold our freedoms.
