ABOUT LUCIA BÁEZ-GELLER


Lucia Báez-Geller is an educator, community leader, and proud Floridian. The daughter of a Colombian mother, and a Cuban father, who came to Miami fleeing communism, Lucia saw the sacrifices her parents made to achieve the American Dream. Lucia’s father fled communism in Cuba in the 1980’s. He survived and found his way to America after spending a month living on the Peruvian embassy’s ground with almost no food or water. Finally, he was able to board a ship heading for America. Lucia was raised by her single mother, who worked multiple jobs to ensure Lucia got the best education possible.


As the first in her family to go to college, Lucia has seen first hand how the power of education can change lives. That’s why Lucia became a teacher for Miami’s public school system, teaching thousands of students English and Language Arts at Miami Beach Senior High from 2005 to 2020.

Lucia’s passion for education and helping the community that built her prompted her to run for Miami-Dade County School Board District 3. Since 2020, Lucia has helped improve Miami-Dade’s public schools, keeping schools safe, protecting all students from extreme attacks, and ensuring students are prepared to level up in the classroom.


Lucia graduated from Spring Hill College in 2005 with a degree in English and secondary education and later earned a MS in English Education and an Education Specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from Florida International University. Lucia and her husband David Geller are parents to a two year old daughter.


CHC BOLD PAC


BOLD PAC is the campaign arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and is dedicated to increasing diversity in the House and Senate by getting more Latinos and Latinas elected. In 2022, BOLD PAC elected the largest Democratic CHC in history, bringing nine new Latinos to the House, including four in seats that were picked up by House Democrats. ACERCA DE LUCIA BÁEZ-GELLER


Lucia Báez-Geller es educadora, líder comunitaria y orgullosa floridana. Hija de madre colombiana y padre cubano, quien llegó a Miami huyendo del comunismo, Lucía vio los sacrificios que hicieron sus padres para lograr el sueño americano. El padre de Lucia huyó del comunismo en Cuba en los años 80. Sobrevivió y encontró su camino hacia los Estados Unidos, después de pasar un mes viviendo en el terreno de la embajada peruana, casi sin comida y agua. Finalmente, pudo abordar un barco con destino a América. Lucia fue criada por su madre soltera, quien tuvo múltiples trabajos para garantizar que Lucia recibiera la mejor educación posible.


Como la primera persona de su familia en ir a la universidad, Lucia ha visto de primera mano cómo el poder de la educación puede cambiar vidas. Es por eso que Lucía se convirtió en maestra del sistema de escuelas públicas de Miami, enseñando inglés y artes del lenguaje a miles de estudiantes en Miami Beach Senior High de 2005 a 2020.


La pasión de Lucia por la educación y por ayudar a la comunidad, la impulsó a postularse para el Distrito 3 de la Junta Escolar del Condado de Miami-Dade. Desde 2020, Lucia ha ayudado a mejorar las escuelas públicas de Miami-Dade, manteniendo las escuelas seguras, protegiendo a todos los estudiantes de ataques extremos y garantizando que los estudiantes estén preparados para seguir superándose en el aula.
